CSS branding not applied to sign in page (Help Center)

Posted Sep 12, 2013

We brand our Help Center with CSS. This works fine for the home page and the "submit a request" page.

The branding isn't applied to the "Sign in" page:

Zendesk Support told us (ticket #498068) that this feature is currently missing. I do believe it's very important for a consistent, professional experience towards our customers.

Our use case is one of compliance.  Our privacy auditors, TRUSTe, require us to have a link at the bottom of any page that collects personal or private information (like your password) to our privacy policy page.  This also ties into our Safe Harbor certification.

We really need the ability to just add a link to the bottom of the login page.

Hey guys,

I've heard you loud and clear and I am going to set up a beta that you can all join, if you don't care about support for Internet Explorer 8. Note that no user on IE8 will be able to log in.

I should also reiterate that the solution we are adding is a modal that appears on top of your page with the login. For security reasons it is not possible to change the template of the login dialogue itself, but hopefully it shouldn't feel as out of context as the current login page.

It will look similar to this:

Beta will be ready by the beginning of next week at which point I will update here.

Again I would like to apologise for the delay in getting this feature out. Thanks to all of you for still hanging in there.

Many thanks for this Christian - I look forward to the Beta!

@Christian Looking great. Will the CSS style (and JS) of the Help Center apply to the login dialogue?

0

Martijn,

For security reasons it's not possible to change the actual design of the modal itself. You can add and style an overlay behind the modal, but the modal itself can't be styled.

Christian, will it use the font and color settings from the Help Center?

0

No, it won't. It is completely separated from Help Center theming.

Ok, looking forward to the beta!

Wonderful!

Hey guys,

Beta is now open!

Remember that when beta is activated, Internet Explorer 8 users can no longer sign in.

Hi,

Im a little confused.

Wasnt this ongoing feature request conversation related to the ability to be able to customise the login page?

The beta seems to still not allow this. I want to fully change fonts, colours, positioning for our login page.

Have I missed the point?

Hi Howie,

You haven't. You are right that that is what the original feature request is about. Unfortunately, for security reasons we can't allow full customization of the login dialogue. So instead we started to see what else we could do to solve the use case. We came to the conclusion that a modal that opens on top of the page is better than a completely separate page, as that would blend in better.

I am aware that we should probably at some point allow for more customization options, but that would require more work because we can't open up the HTML/CSS/JS.

We hope that this is a great first step that helps a good portion of our customers, although we recognize that it does not solve the full use case yet.

Any update on when this will go live?

Hi Henry,

Not quite. But I would recommend you join the beta, so you can get it now.

I wold but unfortunately not having users login via IE 8 is a blocker.

0

Ah, okay. Unfortunately we don't expect the new login dialogue to work in IE8. It's just not technically possible. So if you want to continue to support IE8 users you will have to use the current separate sign-in page.

I'm in the beta. It's looking good! I have a feature request though.

Is it possible to hide/remove the 'Sign up' and 'Get password' options from the modal? We don't want anyone to be able to sign up via the Help Centre modal.

We use the Help Centre for our staff only (not for customers). Our customers use the widget to raise tickets/chat (so we need the 'anybody can submit a ticket' feature). We email our staff with login details to the Help Centre.

Is this use case something you might be able to help with in a future iteration?

Hi Mark,

You can disable the sign-up button inside your settings. See this guide for more.

Now I can see that we have a bug, because you should also be able to remove the password link by disabling the feature "Allow users to change their password" under Admin > Settings > Customers. It works with the old dialogue but not with the new one. I will create a bug with our engineering team, so we can have that fixed. You could already now deactivate "Allow users to change their password", so that as soon as we have it fixed, it will no longer show the link to changing password.

No updates since March, and this is the main thread I can find about this...

The need to support IE8 (until MS finally kills it in January 2016) prevents us from using this "beta" solution.    I do not understand how allowing CSS to be applied to the login/reg pages, or having a seperate CSS configuration for them, is a security risk.    Is this modal the only solution you plan on supporting going forward?

Hi Dan,

At this point, we do not expect to support other solutions than the new modal. The separate pages will be deprecated at some point.

We are putting our finishing touches on the new modal and we have managed to build in support for IE8 as well. We expect to release that to everyone soon.

Hi all,

Ankit just announced the new login model, in case you didn't see it: https://support.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/206422347-Change-to-the-sign-in-experience-for-end-users-agents-admins

Best,
Erin

@ Christian

Per your post on March 25, is the bug fixed. I cannot, I need to remove the login password entry boxes.

The only thing I want visible is the sign on with Google button. After the bug is fixed I want to change to the new modal.

Thanks

Anup

HI Anup,

Unfortunately we can't allow for customization of the login dialogue for security reasons. By changing the separate page to a modal we expect that less feel the need to customize it. It is not possible to remove or otherwise style the modal though.

Not sure if my question was understood properly. I don't want to graphically style it. I want features within the hover over box to disappear.

Also see Mark Hamilton's post March 20th.

Hi Anup,

Yeah, I understood what you meant, but unfortunately it's not something we can allow right now for security reasons. Normally in Help Center you would style your pages using the theme editor, but in this case we can't open that up. One day we might add more settings that allow for some customization though.

I was hoping for a solution on this one already.. We would like to customize the sign-up page so that we can collect all of the related user data (name, address, tel, email, product, serial number, etc..

1

@Anup Bhagvanji @Christian Colding If you don't want to give us access to the HTML or CSS at least give me a few check boxes to remove unwanted items in login. For me I just want the Sign in with Google, Twitter, Facebook, option. No need for the rest.

Although in some scenarios I like it just the way it is.

CHOICE PLEASE

+1 for sure. Wanted to do something very simple – provide people with our Support phone number and email address on the login page – but cannot do it.

I tried clicking on the "Join the beta" link and get this:

oops,

You're not authorized to access this page

Am I doing something wrong or has the site been taken down?

Jason, has anyone from zendesk replied to your comment, we too are trying to download the beta and get the same error.
