Allow Redirect of Urls
Planned
Posted May 22, 2013
Allow the ability to redirect to another Zendesk url when requesting another one. The purpose of this is when a URL is no longer used but users may still have bookmarks to it, the retired url would redirect to another url.

Well said, Billy Watts!
This request is now 8 years old. If you can't give it to us, can you tell us why? Or if you're trying, can we get an update?
Someone above asked last year for a "Zendesk 2020" response and now it's mid-2021 and we're still waiting.

+1 here for this feature!
We desperately need a 30X redirect capability for our instance of Zendesk as well! Why is this so difficult and why no official reply / update?

+1 on this feature.
This feature would be a massive benefit to us, as we occasionally retire older articles, which are still linked to by our partners. With the ability to re-direct, it would ensure people are directed to the relevant page.

Hi everyone, thanks for your input and we hear that this is an important piece of functionality for you. Although it's not on our current roadmap, we’ve got it in our backlog of features that we consider on a quarterly basis as we plan our future roadmap. The next review will happen in September, and if we do add it to the roadmap, it would be in Q2 2022. We'll update this thread once we've completed our planning, but as always, we can't promise that conditions won't change

What was the outcome of the September 2021 review? Is this feature going to be added to the Q1 2022 roadmap?

Hey All,
To answer the question this is on our roadmap.
Thanks!
Update: New release target is Q4 2022.

@Ryan McGrew that's great to hear, thanks for the update! Will this be just for articles or will it allow for redirects of any URL? Are there any other specifics you can give us?

Ryan McGrew I see this is slated for release in late Q2 2022. Since we're approaching that timeframe, has there been any update? Still on track? Thanks!

Hey All,
Just providing an update that we are working on the technical design this quarter and will pick up active development on this next month. The solution will be allow admins to create redirect rules that can perform server side 301 and 302 redirects on URLs. We will start with an REST API to manage redirect rules and will then build redirects into our UI through the end of 2022.
Thanks!

Thanks Ryan McGrew that's awesome to hear! Will this allow redirect to any URLs or just to Zendesk ones in the same instance? Our use case is that we wish to merge different instances of Zendesk and one of the blockers is that the help centres need to be migrated and redirected.
Thanks!

Hi all,
Sorry for the delay here. The current ETA for a release of the redirect functionality is December 2022 (within the next 3 months).

It's 2022 Q4 ;) is there any solution except using java script with the note that Zendesk is not responsible for the code.

Hi all, sorry for not keeping this thread sufficiently up to date. We have updated the release target to Q4 2022 (the current quarter).

Hi Kasper,
Could I check with you if this feature would be available end of this Q4?
Thanks!

Hi all,
Another update on this feature. The new ETA is end of Q1 2023. We've had to deal with some unforeseen issues that unfortunately caused this delay. I know some customers are eagerly awaiting the feature and we look forward to being able to ship it!

Mike DR - I raised #11380177 to see if we can get access to this feature - not having much luck convincing the support rep that it's on the roadmap though.
Thanks!

Can we get an update on the delivery of this feature now that we're in the 2nd half of Q2 2023?

Hey All,
I wanted to announce here first that we're opening an EAP for our Custom URL Redirect API. You can find more information about the EAP and sign up to participate here.
When you're added to the EAP I will reach out with API documentation and will be happy to hear any feedback you have.
Thanks!

Adding my voice to this long standing customer issue. We just finished migrating from another platform to Zendesk and in the process had to manually recreate hundreds of articles and then discovered that we also lost all our SEO history because there is no 301 redirect capability in the platform.
I'd be interested to learn why Zendesk started with the API approach and not something within the product. The API approach involves a much heavier lift for customers to engage engineers in development and support of code. Plus, the first version of this only supports existing Zendesk content, so is of no benefit right now.

Ryan McGrew thank you for getting this feature out, it will be of great help to our business! I have signed up for the EAP. When can I expect to hear from you on next steps?

Hey Ryan McGrew - We're eager to try out this redirect feature! Is there any estimate when we'll hear about next steps for participating in the EAP? Thank you!

Hi, I need to implement the same redirect solution to our zendesk instance and I'd rather not use the code indicated in this article unless there's no other choice. I see you have posted that a solution would be implemented in early Q2. We are in Q2 I believe. Is there a solution implemented yet? If yes, (Yay!) how can I make use of it? Documentation?
If no, then when will it be implemented?
Thanks,
Ani

Hello! I was wondering if there was any update as we're now in Q3? We'd love to be able to implement your redirect solution. Thanks!

Hey All,
I recommend signing up for the our EAP. We've been adding interested customers and notifying them when it's active on their accounts. You can sign up here and you can read more in the documentation. We currently support the redirect of URLs that begin with <yourzendesksubdomain.com>/hc/ and are working now on URLs at <yourzendesksubdomain.com> for delivery in September.
Thank you!

Hi Ryan McGrew
Its nearly the end of September 2023 and end of Q3-2023, What is an update for it?
I'm desperately waiting for it ready with redirecting for any URL for <yourzendesksubdomain.com>, not MUST begin with /hc
Thanks,
