Explore Permissions - Ability to create/run/edit OWNED queries only

Posted Oct 30, 2020

Our ability to let our team leads/agents use explore is extremely limited since we can't trust that they will not be able to intentionally or unintentionally modify important queries used in dashboards that get sent to executives, clients, etc on a large scale basis. As the datasets in Zendesk can get quite complex in how they interact it would be very easy for someone to modify something that caused incorrect filtering for some important reporting that goes out to our executives and our clients.

Being able to limit users to only be able to create/edit their own reports is essential for us being able to allow more wide adoption of self serve reporting.

I agree with this feedback.  Some additional ways to lock down queries from others seeing them or editing them would be useful.

We have a similar use case.  Management has many queries for agent performance, which we would not want agents to see.  However, agents manage products and services, and it would be nice to let them create their own reports and queries for their products and services.  We don't because we don't want to expose the management queries.

I do get that an agent with access to create queries would be able to re-create any query to check on the same things in the Manager queries.  However, they may not think of it if they don't see it first.

I absolutely agree with this. I have some very capable managers that want to create their own queries/dashboards/reports, but I'm reluctant to give them access simply because they can unintentionally break what is already there.

This functionality was present in Insights. I don't understand why it wasn't put in place for Explore.
