Zendesk does not allow you to bulk find/update articles with deleted authors

As part of of our employee termination process, sometimes user accounts are deleted from our Zendesk instance before we have a chance to re-assign authorship of their written articles to others.  Zendesk does not currently have functionality to find those articles with deleted author once the user is deleted from the system, nor can ZD support provide a list.

This is a painful issue at times, as based on the large volume of articles you may have, you have to search each one manually to confirm if there is an author that needs to be swapped out.  ZD needs to be better here, as most secure companies may have to delete accounts rather quickly at times at termination.

I've found (in the past) if I set the owner as someone who's more long tenured, it somehow causes less issues with changes to the author. Honestly, I manually track authors in a spreadsheet to deal with this.

It would be good to have a way to manage deleted or no longer valid users. (For example, by being able to filter in the Guide Admin view.)

If we could at least filter where Author = NULL in the Manage Article section, I think that would help to identify articles where the author is displayed as a "permanently deleted user"

Any news here, Zendesk? We need a solution here to see comments on articles that were written by deleted user.

I adhere to this approach:

  1. Go to the Guide admin page.
  2. Configure the page to display the Author column.
  3. Sort the Author column in alphabetical order.
The deleted author's articles will display either "Permanently Deleted User" or a hyphen (-) in the Author column.
  4. Select articles and click Change author under Article settings.

Ah, you mean over here, right?
I never realized that option - thanks for pointing me that way - super helpful!
