Hiding the messenger widget
Posted Nov 05, 2021
Dear Support,
Hello, I'm a developer trying to integrate your product into our web application, and the problem is, the messenger widget sometimes gets in the way of the view and prevents our user from accessing some of the functionalities within our application.
What I want to do:
1. hide the messenger widget
2. add a button on our menu that opens the messenger, so that users can contact support.
Part two is easy to accomplish, there's the documentation for that already and it's pretty straightforward. I just want to hide the messenger widget.
I saw some articles and documentation about hiding the classic web widget, and hide it by default in the settings, but I went to the settings page and turn out I'm using the messenger, which is a different thing.
We currently have this integration with intercom and we're looking to switch to Zendesk. However, if the hiding functionality is not available, we can't make the switch. Are there any workarounds or any other ways to hide the messenger widget? Please let me know.

Hey Ronnie Feng,
Thanks for reaching out!
As it currently stands, the best way to achieve this while using messaging would be setting the zIndex on the web widget to hide it behind other content on your page:
https://developer.zendesk.com/documentation/zendesk-web-widget-sdks/sdks/web/sdk_api_reference/#set-zindex
Our team is constantly working on additions and improvements to the messaging experience. You can keep up to date with features plans via Productboard here and announcement posts here.
I hope this helps! Feel free to reach out with any questions.
