Ability to remove the "New Dataset" button from Editor's and Admins
The challenge(s):
- Too often I'm seeing confused users creating a new dataset thinking it will be exclusively theirs. Or others that create a new dataset thinking they're creating a report, then realizing the mistake and going to the queries section to create their report, but leaving behind the dataset which is useful to no one.
- This creates a massive dataset section that's growing (at least a slower rate than the new queries section) and becoming unmanageable like the queries section. The lack of organization options in the tool is definitely disappointing. GoodData at least allowed us to create folders.
QUESTION-(rabbit hole): Am I completely wrong about Datasets? While writing this I created a new dataset and it did not give me any options to specifically choose the fields that I want in my dataset. I was simply offered the ability to pick from Support, Guide, Talk, etc. Then offered to pick from the following:
Tickets
SLA's
Ticket Updates
Backlog History
These options seem to be the same each time I create a new dataset. With that logic, I would think the only benefit to creating a dataset is that you can choose it when creating a new query, then continue to choose it when creating queries that you want to be grouped together. Which would make the Dataset option a kind of 1st level folder?
The ask:(if the above is not true)
Give the ability to remove access to the "New Dataset" button in the Admin and Editor profiles. This way I don't have people creating un-needed datasets and creating a nightmare when managing Explore.
Thanks.

Thanks for this feedback, Michael!

Agree with this - and I'd want the "Copy dataset" option when cloing a dashboard to be tied into this permission. We get a lot of datasets that way.
