HelpCenter artiles: View pdf in browser

Post Title:
HelpCenter artiles: View pdf in browser
Feature Request Summary:
When creating a helpdesk article with a pdf attached customers can only downloads the pdf. I would like to have it diplayed in the browser.
Description/Use Cases:
When an attachement is clicked in a help article it is downloaded to the customers pc.
Instead I would like the option of opening it in a browser.
This prevents all kind of uncontrolled copies being downloaded and makes it easier to always keep the latest version available for viewing.
Business impact of limitation or missing feature:
This will be a big win since less uncontrolled copies circulate in the field
Other necessary information or resources:
Would also be handy for other attachements like pptx. But if for security reasons only pdf can be viewed inline then converting to pdf is always possible for many file formats

Jeroen Mulder, thank you for raising this up. At the time of developing the article attachment feature, we've been advised by our security specialists against implementing behavior that would allow opening any attachments (incl. pdfs) on click.
I'm aware however that some time has passed since then and opening pdfs in browser is an expected behavior now. I'll engage with our security team to see if their risk assessment has changed and if we can allow for this change.

Hello, this problem should be fixed now.

Hi,
It is fixed in the sense that it opens a PDF in the webbrowser. There is still a download button so the problem of uncontrolled copies is still there. Is it possible to embed the pdf such that it is no longer downloadable?

Jeroen Mulder, both the pdf title-on-click and the download button should have now the same behavior that is defined by the browser's in-build pdf viewer.

Hi Katarzyna Karpinska,
I have tried to see if there is a setting somewhere to enable this through Chrome but doesn't seem to be. Is there another setting within Zendesk itself to enable just viewing a PDF inside of a ticket instead of downloading it?
Thanks,
Jayden

Hi Jayden Woolley, can you specify what do you mean by a ticket?
As I understand this request was related to viewing pdfs attached to Help Center articles. It should work out of the box (no additional setting) for all the browsers that support viewing PDF.

Hi Katarzyna Karpinska,
Sorry, misread the request. Is this possible for PDF attachments within Zendesk Support Tickets?
Thanks,
Jayden

I did some digging on my end and it doesn't look like natively you can just view the PDF while in a ticket without downloading. That being said, it may be worth taking a look at our app marketplace to see if there's a 3rd party integration available.
Let us know if you have any other questions!
