Feature improvement: Sandbox refresh

Posted Mar 04, 2024

I use my premium sandbox as a training environment. Unfortunately over the year and a half since we created our sandbox we have made multiple changes to our production instance that now makes our sandbox less helpful for training. In order to make this sandbox a functional training environment, it required us to make several updates to other systems to recognize the field IDs, sandbox subdomain, etc. I want to refresh this, but doing so means we will have to rebuild all of those connections that rely on field ID.

Allow for an option to refresh a sandbox, ie pull in new triggers, fields, options on existing fields rather than deleting and rebuilding from scratch.

+1 we have definitely run into this issue. We have an entirely separate Zendesk instance for our builds and we copy them over to prod. But the official premium sandbox is used for our Developers. Which means app configurations. They also need to be able to test the workflows but that means we need to rebuild everything we have added to our prod into this Dev Sandbox. I know we can build into the dev sandbox and push to prod but that is not for everything. And that doesn't include the changes we have already made.

It would be helpful to have an option to copy everything in prod to the sandbox without the need of deleting. Otherwise we require all of our dev teams to set up their helpsites and apps all over again. Not to mention notifying them we are doing this

I agree with this request. Also can we have the ability to replicate Explore dashboards or in the sandbox for tickets that are moved over from production?

Hi, and thanks for the feedback.

We know that sandboxes can drift from production over time, which means a hassle for training or making changes, and as you have said, there's a cost to keeping things up to date. This is a problem that the team is aware of and is on the backlog. I'm looking forward to sharing some timeline details soon.
