Chat should support attaching any file type + paste images directly into chat

Answered

Posted Apr 04, 2024

We keep getting complaints from our customers that the zendesk chat widget attach button is not very user-friendly.

  1. It does not support pasting images directly
  2. It supports very limited set of file types ("Upload failed. File type is not supported")
  3. Specifically it doesn't support office files like word, excel, etc.
  4. It doesn't mention which file types are supported, so customers keep try and fail

Fixing all the above would make it much more useful.

Thanks!

Yes, this feature will be great. So the client can check which file is supported in chat.

Yes, this addition is much needed in the Chat option as this will help in the real-time solution of the ongoing issue. This can save time and we could get a happy and satisfied client.

Almost every chat somehow has drag-and-drop or paste support.  Personally, I'm struggling with this functional gap while chatting with ZD support.

Hi Mor,

Thanks so much for taking the time to share this feedback. Unfortunately, there are no plans to support copying and pasting image files into the widget. However, customers can drag and drop images into the widget today. I've forwarded this feedback to the Widget team.

Re: Supported file types - here's a list of supported file types on Chat. Unfortunately, there aren't any plans to address supported file type limitations in Chat. However, Messaging does have a more extensive list of supported file types, which includes Office files.

Hope this helps!

- Sarah D.

Sarah Darmawan  you're right that Messaging does have a more extensive list of supported file types, however, many of your clients provide technical support (as do we) and require receiving archived or zipped files such as, but not limited to, *.tar, *.tar.gz, *.z, *.zip, *.7z, *.rar, etc.

Being unable to receive such files slows support and is inconvenient for the customers, which may lead to them being unwilling to help and send the file via another channel such as email.

We definitely need either custom file formats being available for uploading, or zipped files support at least.

Hi ZD team, do you have any updates regarding the enhancement of the live chat feature? This improvement would greatly benefit our customers who use it. Currently, finding files on their local systems and the limitations on file types can be quite cumbersome. Please let us know if there has been any progress. Thank you!
