Update locale in support from the Help Center User Profile page

Posted Jan 14, 2025

I am looking for a way to let users update their preferred language from the help center profile page.
While that works fine for the active session, it is not possible to let an end user set its default locale, so that it would reflect in support as well:

According to the User API the users have a locale property which should be editable.
However, the User Object in Zendesk Help Center does not expose that property for editing.

Is there a way to let the end user edit his default locale / preferred language?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Nezir! The locale property is editable in the API, however it is only editable by agents and administrators, not end-users themselves. Since we don't expose a way for agents and admins to "authenticate as" in the help center, it wouldn't make sense to allow this to be editable on the user object.

You can always reach out to our product team for the Help Center in our product feedback forum to see if you can convince them to look into this as an option to add in the future!
