Ability to set default sorting order when searching for ticket requests

When searching for tickets, we would like the ability to set the default search results for the order the tickets appear.
In some instances, the first results that appear are tickets from 2 years ago, we would prefer to be able to set our preference in the results such as display by request date so we can see the results from the most recent request.
I would imagine the functionality would work similar to the ticket views how you can set your preferred order by as per below:
