Does disabling 'Zendesk Authentication' in favour of 'External Authentication' also disable token API access or just password API access?

Hi there!

For security purposes, our company would like to disable Zendesk user Authentication (for agents) in favour of SSO (external) authentication.

When I go to save the changes, there's a big scary popup that says:

  • API requests that require Zendesk authentication will stop working

It's not clear whether this will affect all API access, or just API access that requires password authentication (i.e. not token authentication)

Does turning off Zendesk Authentication affect token API access or just password API access?

Thanks!

Hey Derek,

There are 2 ways an API can be authenticated- via Password Access and Via Token access. Disabling the Zendesk native authentication will prevent you from using the Password Access Method:

This means that you can still use your API tokens/Token Access to authenticate API requests. Please see this article for more information: Generating a new API token

Regards,

Dion
