Use Zendesk Talk phone number as Google Developer Account support phone number

To publish an app to the Google Play Store (and the Apple App Store), you need to establish a developer profile that includes a phone number for end user support. It seems logical to use a Zendesk talk number, so this gets routed to agents and logged as tickets, but Zendesk blocks Google from sending the verification code. This seems like a perfect use case for Zendesk talk.

This is a huge problem, Zendesk. The new requirement goes live in December. We tried using verify via phone and text – neither works. There is a straight-to-voicemail workaround suggested in another forum, but we were still unsuccessful. If we can't verify our support phone line, we're really stuck.
