Alter behavior when Clicking the "Cancel" button on the warning about large data results clears entire query

Publicado 04 de ago. de 2020

I've found that when you are putting together a report in Explore that potentially can result in the return of a large data set and you click the "Cancel" button in the the pop-up dialogue box warning the user of a large data return not only stops the execution of the report but also wipes out the entire report.

I would like the "cancel" action to simply stop the running of query and allow you to make any necessary changes without having to recreate the entire report.  The requested action is  similar to the action when  using the Cancel option in the query itself

Hi Bill, thanks for this great feedback.

Oddly, I wasn't able to replicate it which might mean it only happens in some circumstances. I've opened a ticket for this so we can try and figure out what's going on. You should hear from someone soon. Thanks!

I've seen this as well sometimes for a new query that I'm creating for the first time.  I agree, it would be nice if it didn't clear everything out.

@... and @... thank you for the feedback. We did some optimization in the Large query loading UI but it looks like we missed this use case.  We will be investigating this issue in the following weeks.

+1 I forget about this when building new queries and the moment I click Cancel, it's instant regret as the entire query is wiped out. This definitely needs to be addressed.

+1 to this, it's very jarring and unexpected. I would like to see the same thing happen when I hit cancel in that pop up, that happens when I hit cancel while the query is generating, that it displays the query was cancelled, and has a "retry" button.
