Question
Can I set the Customer Status and Prospect Status through a CSV import into Sell? When I imported a CSV file of customers, all of their statuses defaulted to non-customer. Why didn't the status update?
Answer
The Customer Status and Prospect Status of your Sell contacts will update automatically based on the status of deals associated with the contact. While these fields cannot be updated by importing a CSV file, they can be updated through the API or manually updated in specific situations.
For example, the Customer Status will be set to Current Customer when a won deal is associated with the contact.

I've been wracking my brain with this same question for over a year, and I found a workaround to update the customer status using a CSV, without having to pay for a third-party integration.
This is the process:
Since a won deal was created for each contact, this triggers Zendesk to label these companies as "Current Customers"... later, you can filter out all those fake deals using the tag, and just delete them. Even if you delete the deal that initially labeled the contact a current customer, this doesn't revert the contact's status as a customer.
