Include User Profile Changes in Audit Log

Being able to know who, when, and what was changed on user profiles would be enormously helpful.  For instance, I am troubleshooting a language issue, and I am unable to tell, who or what or when a user's language was updated, because it's not recorded anywhere. 


Edit: March 2022, there's still no audit log changes for any of these fields besides languages. I really need all custom user fields to record who made changes. It's impossible to figure out how or when values were changed currently, and making it deeply difficult to investigate problems.

I'm Brett, the Product Manager who looks after the User Profile page. I'm very glad to let you know that we're working on this now. We're mid way through a company wide effort to fill gaps in the audit log. As part of that, updates to a user's language will be be included in the audit log soon.

I was asked to post a new feature request for this exact same thing again, because it's not actually been implemented for any field other than language. This is a feature request, not a question. Can this be marked un-answered?

I just performed a quick test and it looks like changes to all standard user fields are firing audit log events.  Would you mind letting me know which fields aren't working for you and I'll investigate?

Hi Brett, 

All custom user fields are currently unlogged when changes occur, as well as changes to user tags. This is a massive gap, in my opinion.

Apologies for the tardy reply. I took some leave over the holidays. 

These events are owned by different teams. I've spoken Ashwin Raju who owns Custom User Fields, they don't have any active plans to add custom fields to the audit log.

I'm still chasing down who owns tags. I'll update here when I've found and spoken to them.

Audit log actors are visible only to users.
It would be very helpful if you could add system updates such as triggers and APIs, but do you have any plans for improvements?

I'm the one looking over audit logs and glad to vet this feedback a bit more.

When you are speaking about system updates to the user, are you speaking about anytime an integration or business rule updates the user? For instance, with SSO, an audit when the user external ID is changed, or separately, when your marketplace app (Or sunco) updates a field?


Any Additional context to your ask, in terms of use case, specific fields that are a priority, or otherwise would be especially helpful!

 

And for transparency sake, this work has not been prioritized right now, but definitely something I believe in solving and further validating, so I'm all ears in terms of context and request!
