Almost too simple and obvious but sorely missed here as well!

If you are a Google Chrome user, you could install an extension like Dark Mode or Dark mode / night reader. Those seem to do a pretty good job.

+1 for native ability to change colors or themes.
Not all your customers work for companies that allow installations of extensions......... Thanks!

Zendesk, how is this not here yet?

A native dark mode would be really, really great!
I've been using the DarkReader extension (Chrome and FF) to reduce the blinding white to a light sepia. There's full dark mode settings available in the extension for those who want it. As Heather mentioned, not all users are permitted to use browser extensions!

I am disappointed that Zendesk still doesn't have a dark mode feature. Knowing that users are on there for 8-10 hours at a time and that dark mode is much better for prolonged computer use. It looks like users have been asking for this feature for 2 years! Recommending extensions is not a good answer either. As others have noted in the thread, some people do not have the ability to utilize extensions. But also, recommending that your customers use somebody else's product to meet a need on your program is just poor service. I have tried the extensions but they cause issues with some of the other programs that I work with every day so I have removed them. I really wish Zendesk would give this request some attention.

I don't think Zendesk cares about customers well-being
Zendesk if you're after money, hey I'll pay for a dark mode.

Hey Kyle -
We do care very much about everyone's well-being. But we've had to prioritize things that are more business-critical over nice-to-haves at this point in time. There aren't any projects currently slated for development that we could justify canceling in order to put this one on the list.

Hey Kyle,
Have you tried the DarkReader extension for Chrome or FireFox? It's free and can either dampen down the blinding white on pages, or convert to a full dark mode.
While a native dark mode would be nice to have, this certainly makes an improvement!

Hello Nicole,
How many votes do you need to consider something important or a priority? I know that everyone has different expectations on what is important but it really looks like you focus on big new features we all have to pay for than on workflow and UI improvements. Even apps we use now to compensate for workflow shortcomings become paid apps. If that is your approach, why not make the dark theme paid-for as well? Would this give it a higher priority?

Exactly Eckhard.
Plus it's a ticketing system...what sort of bugs are worked on for several years that are a high priority?
User send email, support team receive email. Eventually close ticket.
Perhaps Zendesk is working on a Single Sign on with Azure? *Oh nice, ~three months ago this rolled out. Nice.
I will check out that DarkReader again though Dan, thank you.

Hey!
A good dark mode is key and a life, nay, a sight-saver for all us that spend countless hours looking at Zendesk, day in and day out.

I am not seeing it in this thread so I am going to post it for people searching this feature out. I received this email this morning.

Hello all!
We developed Chrome and Firefox extensions for Zendesk to turn the Dark Mode on!
I would appreciate your feedback and shares:

I tried the Chrome extension and it works amazingly well. Thanks Zendesk for stepping up and getting this done.

Hey John Hanley,
Thanks for sharing!
My comment with all the details is pending.
I just want to tell that we are not affiliated with Zendesk and developed our extensions independently.

That dark theme is very dark!! It will take a bit to get used to but this is a much needed feature.

It doesn't sound like Zendesk had anything to do with this extension. Dmytro. This is good... I like it much more than the white of course. Some feedback since you asked for it. It would be a lot nicer to have colors that contrasted a bit more. Like dark blacks and subtle whites. The gray light gray font on the gray background is good and a step in the right direction but it would be cool if you had darker background with much lighter fonts. Not complaining but that's my feedback. Overall thank you for the nice work. Obviously Zendesk can't get their crap together ..I mean seriously..I am not a programmer but I can't imagine giving us the ability to change to a dark mode is something that would take a tremendous amount of resources and time. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Either way... it's almost necessary. Hell Microsoft even built it into their new Windows 10 update... come on Zendesk ..get your asses in gear and at the very least... put in on the roadmap or give a better answer than you are working on more important things. I mean ..listen to the people who are paying your salary for crying out loud!

Any improvement in performance planned? When I tried the Chrome extension 3 weeks ago, I found that it introduces a prohibitive latency into screen rendering when scrolling through long tickets / comments.
