Default Values for RegEx and ALL custom fields

As a Zendesk Admin, there is often a need for a default value on a custom fields like a RegEx field. Since Triggers still do not function with RegEx fields, the need for this functionality is not meet-able with trigger based work around.
Please ensure that ALL Custom Fields can support a Default value.

Definitely - many customer field need a default value - this would be a great time saving feature and help ensure ZenDesk exports maintain correct layouts

Seriously? This is not possible? Default values are a very old and basic concept.

This is valid feedback.. I am going to capture this in our backlog.
I presume that the work around that the Original post was suggesting was to invoke a trigger when the ticket is created and fill that value in, so that it looks like the default value was there.. However, this isnt great when the customer is initiating the request from help center. Lets say there is a checkbox that the customer is expected to select. And they intentionally kept the checkbox.. And this trigger runs to over-ride that checkbox to the default value. That might not be a great experience..
