Using brackets or parentheses in article titles

Posted Jan 25, 2022

We have a variety of articles with very similar names but that deal with different parts of our platform ("products"). We made the conscious decision not to segment these articles into product-specific sections, but we need to make it clear from the title which product each article pertains to.

We would like some way to visually offset the product part of the title so that the subject part of the title stands out a bit, but we've been told that using brackets around the product name will negatively impact Zendesk's search functionality. Is that true? And if so, is there another way we could visually offset the product name? Would parentheses similarly impact search?

Here's an example of three article titles, two with the product names in brackets and one without. I think the one without brackets is more difficult to read at a glance.

Hi Kimber,

After review in our test account it does look like adding brackets has any negative effect on search.
This format of "[Keyword] Product" is okay to use if you would like to help Titles of articles stand out from each other on the same subject such as "Social Settings".
