422 unprocessable entity when uploading a file via zendesk api

hi all. i am encountering the error in the subject when trying to do an "uploads?filename=<filename>" api call. i need to create a ticket via api with a file attachment to it. please let me know if any data is required to assist me with this error mesage.

      update:

      i am able to successfully upload a plaintext file but for some reason pdf, png, jpeg, and other else are all throwing an error - 422 unprocessable entity.
