Question
What are the attachment limits in Help Center for articles and posts?
Answer
- Articles images and attachments: 20MB per file or image upload
- Community post and comments images: 2MB per file or image upload
How many attachments are allowed per article?
There is no established limit to the number of attachments allowed in an article. As a best practice, it is not recommended to attach a large number of files to any article. In this case, use a cloud-storage program and link users to a publicly accessible folder there.
However, you can add multiple attachments in an article as long as each uploaded file or image is within the 20MB limit both for inline image and file attachment in an article, while for community posts and comments, you have a 2MB limit.
Is there a limit to the overall storage associated with an article?
There is no established limit to the overall storage allotted to any given article. However, slowness and unpredictability may occur with a large number of files of a large size. Keep in mind that our Help Center is designed to be a Knowledge Base solution, not a file distribution system.

Does this answer apply to Tickets as well?
HI Susan,
Ticket attachment limits vary by plan:
They are listed in this article about adding attachments to comments.
Thank you Jennifer. i am aware of these limits. My question is more directed at how many 20mg attachments I can have in one ticket. Is there an overall storage limit per ticket. Those are the parts I am interested in. The top of the article is a given. THanks
Oh, gotcha. Sorry I didn't fully understand before.
Yes, I believe it's the same--there's no limit to the number of attachments. The size limits are for the individual attachments, not an overall limit.
Ticket attachments are links currently. So the limits and the way attachments work might change in the future, just FYI.
can I download an attachment or screenshot from the 1-year-old closed ticket?
Hi Ravi -
Yes, you should be able to do so.
Are there any limitations on file type?
Hey Ingrid,
You can view a list of supported file types here: Using your own theme assets for Help Center (Guide Professional and Enterprise)
Let me know if that's not what you're looking for as I'd be happy to point you in the right direction :)
Is there any way to change the size limit? We are wanting to host a VM image for customers of a new beta and it's 2 GB. It's not something we would do more than one time. It would be convenient to expeditiously get it available for customers for the beta...
Hey Alan,
These limitations are hard-coded into the system and cannot be altered at this time. You'll need to host this VM image externally from your Help Center due to the 2GB size.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
Are there any third party apps that could be used to attach larger files into Help Center articles? I saw Sendsafely has an integration with Zendesk, but it seems to be tailored for Support Tickets, not for the Help Center
Hey Luis,
I wasn't able to track down an app that would accomplish this in Guide unfortunately. Perhaps others can jump in here and provide an alternative solution for you.
Cheers!
What about the sorting of these attachments? It seems they don't sort themselves in any particular order.
Hi, it would be great to have a larger attachment limit. I often upload GIFs demonstrating the content I'm documenting, which proves troublesome with the limit in place.
Thanks
