I need to delete more tan 200 users from an organization.

It is possible to do it with bulk import ? How?

    Hi Sonia!

So you want to delete these users completely from your Zendesk, or just remove them from the Organization?

If it's the latter, which I think it is, you can do a bulk user update to remove or change the Org for these users.

  • Jimmy Rufo

    Hi Jessie/Rebecca,

Has Zendesk considered a bulk user suspend option?  Our process dictates a user gets suspended when leaving an organization, as we've seen in some cases the same user come back to the same organization, where we've unsuspended the account.

    Hey Jimmy -

It's not a common need, and there's no native functionality to bulk suspend. However, you should be able to do this via the CORE API, using the create_or_update_many users call and updating the  suspended attribute to true

  • Ed Ball

If you delete a user via the API is this a soft delete or a hard delete?

    Hi Ed,

We have two different endpoints related to user-deletion:

The key difference between the two is how the personal information is handled after the deletion. In both cases, the user is marked as deleted within Zendesk (the active attribute will return false to indicate this), but the permanent deletion will delete their information as well. Neither case of deletion will allow for "recovery" of that user. If you're looking for something a bit more reversible, we also allow for suspension of users (not deletion). For more information about user-suspension, please see:

Please let me know if this helps to answer your question. Feel free to reach out to if you'd like to create a ticket to discuss in a more private form.

I need to Buk delete over 300 end-user.

I have to delete them permanently since we got "bounce" on their e-mails when sending info.

I have this in an Excel, can I "easy" delete them permanently (how)?
They have no tickets or any activity more than possibly connection to organisations.

    Hi Reine -

Permanently deleting a user is a two-step process, most easily accomplished in bulk by using the API with a custom script.

First, you need to "soft delete" the users using one of the two methods above - either via the Admin panel or running a script via the API using the delete user endpoint.

Next, to permanently delete an end user, click the Admin icon, select Manage > People, then click Deleted users in the sidebar on the right side. A list of deleted users will appear.

Select the user you want to permanently delete from the list. A screen will appear with the user's name and their associated tickets. Click Delete User.

Alternatively, you can also use the API and a custom script to permanently delete the users with the permanently delete user endpoint.

All of this is outlined in greater detail here: Permanently deleting the end-user or agent

I hope that helps! Give it a go and let us know what additional questions come up for you.

I have successfully bulk deleted organizations in the API. Extracting the ID of the organization was no small chore. I've become very adept now at keeping our organizations updating properly by using the external_id. Great, however I have thousands of organizations that are just sitting there with nothing to do.

What I'm looking to do is to determine the IDs of the organizations that have zero assigned tickets and zero associated users and blast them from existence.

    Any ideas?

    Hello Frank,

I wanted to check if you have multi-org enabled. If you do then there currently isn't a recommended way to bulk delete organizations without bulling a bunch of data in the API. Let me know this isn't the case though and we can go on from there.

    Best regards.

Having an option to bulk delete end users, and then not having and option to permanently delete all deleted end users is rather annoying.  It seems odd to be able to multiselect users to delete, but in the final step it has to be done one-by-one.

How could I delete only the values in the "Notes" and "Details" fields?

  • Elissa

    Hello Balazs Brauner,

You can bulk delete the values in your organization fields using the update many organizations API endpoint

For example, if you're looking to delete the content in the Notes field, you will simply replace that content with nothing, if that makes sense. Here's what the code would look like:

Similar to the example in our documentation, but instead of having a word or phrase like "Priority", just leave the space blank like this "".

    I hope that helps!

I have a question: why? Why is bulk deleting users so cumbersome?
I have to use the API to delete them which does not delete them entirely? Okay...
I have a bulk delete option under "People" that doesn't allow me to search for certain names or email domains? Yes, I can sort per column but for 250,000 users that doesn't really work, does it? And "deleted users" just brings up a list where I can pick one entry at a time? No way to check all and delete all? That view is even more useless. Please tell me that I am missing the obvious here.
I expect Zendesk to allow us to delete users at least as convenient as we can delete tickets.
