Question
Why are my queries cut off or missing at the bottom of my exported or scheduled dashboard PDF's and images?
Answer
When editing and customizing dashboard tabs, you can manually move or reposition your queries and other dashboard widgets below the currently set dashboard tab size height.
Note: In the example above the darker tab area at the bottom where the object is moved to is the outside of the tab area. This background color can be different on your own custom dashboard tab and is determined from the dashboard background color setting by going to Dashboard > Background color.
When an object is not placed within the dashboard tab area, exported or scheduled dashboard PDF's and images will not include the objects positioned outside of the tab area as determined by the current tab height.
Ensure that all the dashboard objects are positioned within the tab height area or adjust and update the tab size height size to support all the objects.
To update the dashboard tab height
- In your Explore dashboard tab, click the Tab options menu from the Dashboard menu.
- Click on the Tab height (
) icon.
- Specify a new tab size height value (numeric value is represented in vertical pixels). The dashboard tab size height will adjust upon a new value being entered.
- Check to validate that the updated dashboard size height now supports all your required dashboard objects. If not then update again as per steps above if required.
- Test the manual export or schedule dashboard again to confirm all the dashboard tab content is included in the PDF or image.

Hi Nhia Lor,
Thank you for this article. However, I still have a question.
What if the content of your report is dynamic in length?
Kind regards, Barbara Hendrix
Hi Barbara,
When you add a query/report to a dashboard you will normally need to manually adjust the size of the query. The query has a fixed width and height so if the results of the query exceed the query height. When viewing the dashboard tab; you will need to scroll through the query to see all the results. When you export the dashboard tab (PDF or image), only the results in the visible query area based on the current query height would be displayed so it's important to ensure that you have adjusted the query height on the dashboard tab to support the expected results from the query.
Hope that helps to clarify your concern there!
Hi Nhia Lor,
When I add a query to my dashboard with 8 pie charts, I can only see 4. I try to resize the query widget, but it only makes my 4 visible pie charts bigger instead of making more content visible. To see the other pie charts, I have to scroll within the widget. How can I make my 8 pie charts visible within the widget? Should I add the query twice with different visible parts?
Thanks,
Anne-Elise
Hey Anne-Elise,
I did some testing on my end and I was able to replicate this functionality you're experiencing. I'm going to bring this into a ticket and pass over to our Explore team so they can confirm expected behavior.
Cheers!
Any update on this? I don't want to scroll widgets in my dashboard as I'm exporting via email on a weekly basis as PDF. I have up to 9 locations to in one widget to send to my district managers. If I make the widget window larger it just makes the bars on the bar charts wider instead of including more locations.
Hello Larry Click
At this time, we have no proposed fix on this issue you are currently facing. I've opened up a ticket on your behalf so our Advocacy team can look into this issue more in-depth. You should expect a response, shortly and we appreciate your patience with this matter.
Best regards.
I'm having this same issue whether in the Query itself directly or in Dashboards.
Please include me on any updates.
Hi,
I am finding this issue very frustrating. All my queries are too long and they don't fit once the Dashboard is exported or emailed. Does anyone have any way around this?
Rose
Hello Rositsa,
This observed behavior is a known limitation of the scheduled delivery functionality in Explore. However, this is listed on our future Product Roadmap as a feature enhancement (timeline TBD).
The gist of it is "When an object is not placed within the dashboard tab area, exported or scheduled dashboard PDF's and images will not include the objects positioned outside of the tab area as determined by the current tab height.".
In the meantime, there are 2 suggested workaround from our Explore Team:
1) Reduce the size of the query (by removing unnecessary columns) or break a large query into smaller queries. This way all the queries can fit into a dashboard with smaller width - ideally 1200px or under.
2) If resizing the queries/dashboard is not an option, you can try manually exporting the dashboard instead of using the scheduled delivery. This will give you a PDF file with the correct size/formating.
I hope you find the above information helpful. Let us know if you have any additional questions! :)
