When emoji is enabled (see Enabling emoji emoticons in ticket comments), you can add emoji to your ticket comments.
There are two ways you can add an emoji to a ticket comment:
- Select an emoji from the emoji window
- Type a combination of characters that renders as a picture in the ticket comment and email notification
To select an emoji to insert in a ticket comment
- For mac, in the ticket comment, press the keys control + command + space.
The emoji window appears for you to select an emoji. - For Windows, in the ticket comment, press the Windows key and the period key.
The emoji window appears for you to select an emoji.
This keyboard shortcut also works for inserting an emoji in a Help Center article.
To type a code to render an emoji in a ticket comment
- In a ticket comment, type the combination of characters for the emoji symbol you'd like to use.
Refer to the Emoji Cheat Sheet for a general reference. All symbols begin with a colon. As you type, an auto-complete reference appears. Zendesk does not support all of the emoji symbols listed in the cheat sheet.
-
The emoji is not rendered until you submit the ticket.
- Click Submit to update the ticket.
Your emoji symbols are rendered in the ticket comment.

I made a Minerva interactive step-by-step guide to help you walk through enabling emoji texts replacement in Zendesk. Minerva is a guide that shows you where to click, and what to do next, so you can set this up on your own account. You can follow the link here for the step by step instructions:

Hi Amanda!
If you're looking to contact someone at TheWebFactory, please try reaching them through their contact page. If you are a Zendesk customer and see this issue when you are working in your Zendesk account, we can create a ticket to look into this. Thanks!

Hey there!
I was wondering if you can please update the emoji's based on what they are actually called?
For example, if I type  - that should show you the emoji that is currently named :smiling face with smiling eyes: (that is not what any other platform calls it)
I think an update to the actual names as they appear in other services (Notion, Slack etc.) so that you don't have to remember the weird names that currently appear in Zendesk vs. the rest of the world.

Agreed with Trevor here.
I'd also love to see an improvement to the auto-suggestor that pops up as you're typing, so that something like ":)" (commonly used for a smiley face) doesn't immediately start suggesting various other emojis that happen to have the ")" symbol in the name y'all have given them.
