After you create a report, datatips (sometime called tooltips) appear when you hover over a data point in the results. In this example, you can see a datatip showing the number of tickets for the Voice ticket channel.
By default, datatips contain the value of the data point you hover over. In this article, you'll learn how to customize datatips and comparison lines which highlight your results by comparing metrics or by displaying the difference between a data point and the highest value in the chart.
Customizing datatips
While datatips are generated automatically with your report, there are a number of settings you can configure to change their look and feel.
To customize your datatips
- With a report open, click chart configuration (
).
- From the Chart configuration menu, choose Datatips.
- On the Datatips panel, configure the following values as required:
- Show datatip: Turns the display of the datatips on or off.
-
Mode: Choose between Datatips or Comparison line. Comparison
lines highlight your results as shown below.
For area, dot, and line charts:
For tables, column, and bar charts:
- Line color: If you selected Comparison line, this changes the color of the dotted comparison line.
- Background color: Changes the background color of the datatip box.
For details of how to change the text displayed by a datatip, see the next section.
Changing the text in your datatips
As well as changing the color and style of your datatips, you can also change the text that is displayed in it.
To change the text in your datatip
- With a report open, click chart configuration (
).
- From the Chart configuration menu, choose Datatips.
- On the Datatips panel, in the text box, type the text you want to display. You can highlight text and choose from formatting controls for text size, bold, italics, underline, justification, and color.
- Typically, you'll want to include data from your report results in the datatip. To do this, position the cursor where you want the report result. Then, click Select an element to add.
- Choose from the list of metrics and attributes you used in your report. The value is
inserted into your datatip text.Note: If you want to add a metric to your datatip, but didn't use it in your report, you can add the metric as a datatip (see Adding metrics as datatips).
- When you are finished, click the chart configuration (
) to close the Datatips panel.
Example
You want to change the original datatip used in this article to read "You got 322,559 tickets in your Voice channel."
To do this, enter this text into the datatip text box:
This will give the following results when you hover over a data point:

Is it possible to hide tooltips for null values?

Hi @..., unfortunately, that's not possible at this time as well. But you can always change the text in the datatip to change the way it would be displayed :)
I also recommend posting on our feedback forum https://support.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/topics/360001200913
Thank you!

Hi Team!
I've been trying to get my data tip to show percent values, but it won't display in the correct format. I have set my metric's display format to percentage but it will always show as "1" instead of the scaled value.
Thank you!

Hello, is it possible to display both the % and the total number on the same chart? For example, in this report, I've chosen to display the result in % (Result manipulation> Result path calculation > Pattern % of total). Ideally, I'd like the Datatips to show the total number of tickets for each bar to have an idea of both the % over the total (displayed value) and the plain number for each bar (in the datatips). Is that possible? Thanks!

Hi Olivia,
Did some testing here and it looks like there's no native way to do this. A couple of workaround to achieve this would be by creating a new metric that is similar to the one that you are using (you can duplicate your metric for this). Once you have 2 copies of the same metric, add them both to your query and you'll have a chart that has 2 columns/bars. You can then set one of them to be in percentage and the other to show the actual value.
This might look a bit awkward using Columns/Bar graph, so as an alternative, you may want to switch to Table view:

Thanks @... for checking and providing a workaround! Have a nice day!

Hi, is it possible to add an attribute to a my datatips which is not an element in my report? I see the instructions on how to add a hidden metric, but not an attribute.
Thanks.

Hello Joey,
You can only choose from the attributes that you have used in your report.

Hi,
I have a combo charge (two data as columns) and another line graph. How do I update the datatips for each?
