Question
If I import someone directly into Sell as a contact, is there a way to automatically convert any leads that may have the same email as my imported contact? I’m worried about importing a list of leads into my account that may already exist as contacts.
Answer
As a best practice, keep very organized CSVs when importing leads, contacts, and deals into Sell and organize those CSVs into 'new records' and 'updating existing records'.
Even though Sell has many mechanisms to prevent duplication, a good practice is to systematically import records in two segregated ways:
- 'New records': import where you expect to add only new people to your account
- 'Updating existing records': import where you are possibly updating existing people in your account with new information.
This helps Sell know when to expect to catch duplicates and merge them together.
If you have a CSV file that contains new people and people that may already exist in your account, configure the duplicate management settings to catch duplicate records based on many qualities, for example, a matching email address. For more information, see the article: Managing duplication settings.
However, while importing your list of people into Sell, don't forget to select the correct option for importing data to ensure the merging of duplicates.
