Today we’re announcing a visual redesign of the “Generated by AI” disclosure in the messaging Web Widget. This update reduces visual clutter while keeping disclosures clear and compliant.
What is changing?
Before → Now:
- Before: “Generated by AI” was shown as a disclaimer in the footer of every AI message. Even in grouped or sequential messages, each message carried the label (resulting in an extra line per message).
- Now: AI disclosure is shown as a label on the AI agent name, and appears once per group of messages.
Why is Zendesk making this change?
- Legal requirements require transparent disclosure when a user interacts with AI, but per-message footers are not strictly required.
- Per-message labels make the conversation noisy and consume too much vertical space. Per-message footers created an extra line for every AI message, distracting from the conversation.
Why is coming next?
We’ll apply the new label more broadly across Social and mobile channels, as well as tighten the labeling logic for consistency.
Why do I need to do?
No action required — the Web Widget UI change is applied automatically for all customers.
