Zendesk is expanding the voice AI agents early access program (EAP) to support conversations in 60+ languages with native-sounding accents and regional dialects. This enhancement enables global support teams to automate phone support in multiple languages without translation work.
This announcement answers the following questions:
What’s changing?
Voice AI agents can now conduct phone conversations in multiple languages with native-sounding accents and region-specific vocabulary.
Key capabilities:
- 60+ languages with regional variants: Support customers in their preferred language from a single AI agent. 10 languages are available now (English, Portuguese, Spanish, German, French, Dutch, Italian, Polish, Romanian, and Turkish), with 50+ more languages coming soon.
- Native-sounding accents: Choose specific regional variants like Mexican Spanish vs. European Spanish, or Brazilian Portuguese vs. European Portuguese to match your customer base.
- Fully generative—no translation required: Your procedures, integrations, and knowledge base work automatically in any configured language.
- Flexible language routing: Route callers to the right language based on phone number, caller location, user data from your systems, or by asking them directly.
- Automatic language switching: Callers can switch languages mid-conversation by simply asking. The AI detects the request and switches if the language is activated.
- Regional dialect options: Select the exact accent and vocabulary for your market (e.g., Austrian German, Canadian French, Brazilian Portuguese).
For more information, see Configuring multi-language support for AI agents.
What's coming soon:
- High-fidelity voices: Voice configuration will allow you to select premium voices per language for enhanced accent quality and naturalness.
- Automatic language detection: The AI agent will automatically detect which language the caller is speaking without requiring explicit configuration.
- Additional languages: 50+ additional languages will be rolling out, including Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Vietnamese, and more.
