We are excited to announce updates to the AI label across social messaging channels and Mobile SDKs, along with the ability to disable the label per channel via API. This is a follow up to a similar improvement in Web Widget.

This announcement includes the following topics:

  • What is changing?
  • Why is Zendesk making this change?
  • What do I need to do?

What is changing?

This update reduces visual noise—especially in social, WhatsApp, and SMS conversations—while still helping you meet transparency and disclosure requirements, including regulations such as the EU AI Act.

  • Redesigned AI label across social messaging and mobile SDKs
    • The “Generated by AI” label no longer appears as a separate line appended to every AI message.
    • Instead, the AI indicator is integrated into the bot’s display name, for example, “Zara · AI”, creating a cleaner and less repetitive conversation experience.
  • Per-channel control via API
    • You can now disable the AI disclosure per channel using the showAIDisclaimer parameter.
    • If you set showAIDisclaimer to false, you are responsible for ensuring your integration complies with applicable AI regulations in the regions where it operates.

Why is Zendesk making this change?

We’re making this change to improve the customer experience while still supporting disclosure requirements.

  • The previous label design felt noisy and took up too much space, especially in longer conversations.
  • In channels like WhatsApp and SMS, the label also added unnecessary character usage and could increase SMS costs.
  • Regulations such as the EU AI Act require users to understand when they are interacting with AI, but do not require a label on every individual message.

This update gives you a cleaner experience and more flexibility in how you disclose AI usage.

What do I need to do?

  • Mobile SDKs
    • This update rolls out on June 11 with version 2.39 of the Mobile SDKs.
    • No action is required if you want to use the new default experience—the redesigned label will apply automatically.
  • If you want to disable the per-channel AI label
    • Update your integration using the Update Integration API and set showAIDisclaimer to false on your Web Widget, iOS or Android integration.
  • Social messaging channels
    • Review the updated experience and confirm whether you want to keep the default disclosure or opt out via API.
