You can easily change the author for a knowledge base article. You can select any agent as the author of an article, regardless of their article management permissions. External end users cannot be article authors.
If you need to change the author for multiple articles at once, see Updating knowledge base articles in bulk.
To change the author for an article
- In your help center or in Guide, navigate to the article where you want to change
the author, then click Edit article in the top menu bar.
- If the Article settings panel is not displayed in the sidebar, click the
Article settings icon (
) to expand the panel.
- Click the Placement card to expand the Placement panel.
- In the Author field, click the author's name, then search or scroll to select
a new author.
You can select agents only. External end users cannot be article authors.
- Click Update settings.

Must someone have User Type = Staff (i.e. agent or light agent) to be displayed in the Author drop-down?
We'd like to post articles from users that are not a part of our company, for example.
Thanks!

Hi @...,
Yes, that's correct, only internal staff can be article authors. External end users cannot author articles in the knowledge base, but they can create posts in the community.
Hope that helps!

Hi, it seems like we lost the option of changing the author recently. Now only my name appears in the drop-down and no other options.

If you are currently on Enterprise, you need to click article settings for you to see the option to change the author.
Hope this helps.

Thank you Dane, yes, that is the dialog I am looking at. The Author drop-down menu is empty for me (and all my colleagues). We were able to see each other's names in the drop-down before and were able to change the author, now we cannot do that anymore.

If that's the case, I would like to investigate it further. I'll create a ticket for you. Please wait for an update via email.

Dane This is also happening on our account as well, and we have an Enterprise plan.

Hi, how can we assign a team / department as an author? Or alternatively, how can multiple co-writers be credited as authors? Thanks!

Hi Michael Buckley,
It's not possible to add multiple authors to your articles. What is possible at this time is displaying an alternative author for an article.

Hi,
We would like to automatically update author based on who last updated the article. Is this possible?

Michael Buckley
+1 It would be cool to be able to swap out the user who created the article for the user who last updated.

Michael Buckley Do you mean manually? If so, that is already possible. You can change the author via the article settings:

Changing article author automatically based on who last updated it is not possible, the only option we have as of the moment is changing it manually which I know you are already aware of.
I encourage you to create a new post in the Product Feedback topic [https://support.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/topics/200132066-General-Product-Feedback-] in our community to engage with other users who have similar needs and discuss possible workarounds.
Sincerely,
