Explore's dashboard builder helps you create dashboards, which are customizable spaces for organizing and sharing information. With the new dashboard builder, you can quickly create dashboards that give you the insights you need to optimize your service channels.
In November 2024, Zendesk introduced a new dashboard builder that makes it simpler and more intuitive to create dashboards that provide you with the insights you need to optimize your service channels.
Until Q4 2025, the previous (legacy) version of the dashboard will remain available. We recommend that you migrate your legacy dashboards to the new dashboard before the legacy dashboard builder is removed. Don’t worry, until the legacy dashboard builder is removed, you can keep a copy of your legacy dashboard in case you need it later.
The Explore documentation primarily covers the new dashboard builder, so we recommend you start using it soon.
In the following sections, you’ll find details about dashboard functionality and the equivalent functionality in the legacy dashboard builder:

Hello Vityria Vongsisca,
The Edit configuration feature is currently not planned to be part of the dashboard builder.
Some features within Edit configuration are now part of the dashboard builder:
- Drill into reporting data
- Hide filters in filters options
The remaining features can be accessed from the report builder.

Hello,
I can't see the export options, the only option I have is to export the entire dash and I need to export individual reports.

Hi Team,
This article effectively clarifies the new terminology associated with previous features. Thank you!
However, it also highlights that several new dashboard builder features—both old and new—are currently unavailable. These include embeddable dashboards, metric filters, dashboard title options (primarily background colors, as we currently only have transparent and white), dashboard activity, and version control. I am not even mentioning some bugs when saving changes such as changes in text colors for report titles.
Does this imply that these features are not yet accessible for all accounts, or are they being released in phases, such as by pods?
As I begin my migration, I aim to utilize the new features while also replicating the components I previously had. Unfortunately, what I see available in my interface does not align with the documentation. If not all features are currently accessible, I may need to delay my migration plan until I can fully leverage the tool's capabilities. Could you clarify a bit on this article what has already been released, what we should not expect to see now, and if possible when it will be available so we can better plan this migration?
Thanks!

Hello,
The scheduler in the new builder is missing the option to set a custom email subject. This is something we are using with the legacy tool and would like to know if there are any plans to implement it in the new one.
Thanks

Is there plans for adding support for dashboard-wide backgound colors like the Legacy builder had?
The migration breaks all visual settings for my dashboards, making it unattractive for us to migrate.
I understand why you would want to update the builder, but forcing customers to a new version, which lacks basic settings the Legacy version had, is very annoying. Looking forward to a response.
Thanks.

Currently when you clone the ‘Zendesk Support’ Dashboard, it generates a legacy dashboard. I was hoping to use this dashboard as a starting template.
When can we expect the default ‘Zendesk Support’ Dashboard to be migrated to the new Explore dashboard builder?

Hi Mayra ,
Thank you for reaching out.
Currently, we only offer the option to export the entire dashboard from the dashboard builder.
If you are interested in exporting a single report, please use the “Edit in report builder” action to export an individual report from the report builder.
Regards,
Walter

Hi Luiza Maués ,
thank you for your feedback about the dashboard builder.
I just want to highlight that some of the features you mentioned were not available on the legacy builder. Dashboard activity (currently available in the new builder), version control, and embeddable dashboards (coming in the future) are not features that are present in the classic builder.
As for metric filters, you can introduce a cap on metrics from the report builder by using the same option in the “Result manipulation” section.
As for additional configuration options like changing the background or chart color, they are available from the report builder. Other dashboard-specific configurations will be researched in 2025 and shared in the dedicated article once we have a firm plan; however, they shouldn't be considered as a blocker when migrating to the new solution.
I encourage you to use our importer tool to quickly migrate dashboards.
Regards,
Walter

Hi Ned Petrov , Thank you for your feedback.
At this time, we do not have plans to implement a custom email subject option in the new builder.
We appreciate your understanding and will keep your suggestion in mind for future updates.

Walter

Hi Oliver Roed
Thank you for your feedback regarding the dashboard builder.
We plan to research the implementation of dashboard-wide chart configuration this year; however, we do not have an estimated timeline for when this feature will be available.
In the meantime, if you would like to customize the appearance of your reports, you can do so by selecting the report and using the “Edit in report builder” option.
Regards,
Walter

Hi AJ Acevedo ,
thank you for your comment about the pre-canned dashboards.
We plan to rebuild the pre-canned dashboards by the end of H1. If you are interested in migrating them earlier, you can do it by cloning the dashboard and using the Importer tool to migrate the dashboard.
Regards,
Walter

Hi Walter Bellante
I don't think it's appropriate to migrate to the new version until the new one offers all the options that the current version has. On the contrary, it would be positive if it improved the current construction of the dashboards. For example, for a weekly report it is essential for us to receive the date {{data}} in the message object and the new version doesn't have this, the construction of the dashboard is much more limited than the current one, etc. Zendesk's service is not free.

Maky
