In September 2024, Zendesk released enhanced Explore permissions to support a more intuitive and transparent user experience. Today, we’re extending this functionality to all historical datasets, meaning all Explore datasets except live datasets.
This announcement answers the following questions:
What’s changing?
With the new Explore group-based permissions, you can define data access in Explore based on the groups agents belong to. Previously, group permissions were only available for two datasets:
- Support: Tickets
- Support: Updates history datasets
With this update, once an admin enables group permissions, agents can access all default datasets but only see data for which their group has permission.
Why is Zendesk making this change?
This update ensures that users with limited Explore access can access all data in Explore. It also enables admins to use the full potential of the permissions functionality and provide access to Zendesk analytics for more users.
What do I need to do?
You do not need to take any action. However, now might be a good time to revisit your current Explore permissions to allow more individuals limited access to Explore. For more information about these updates to Explore permissions, see Giving users access to Explore.
All previously created dashboards and reports respect the new data access level when you apply the new permissions.
