We are thrilled to announce the general availability of the new version of custom objects reporting in Zendesk. This update enables reporting on standard objects and custom object fields that relate to them.

This announcement answers the following questions:

  • What is changing?
  • Why is Zendesk making this change?
  • What do I need to do?
  • What's coming?

What is changing?

If you are using Zendesk custom objects to enrich your Zendesk account with your business data, then this update is for you. Until now, only the custom object name and ID appeared in Zendesk Analytics. Now, all fields, except for multi-select fields, are available for reporting purposes. This means you can analyze ticket, user, or organization metrics by any field within the related custom objects.

The custom object fields will be available in any dataset that has the standard object they relate to. For example, if a custom object has a lookup field that points to the Tickets object, you will be able to find its fields in datasets such as Support: Tickets, Support: Updates history, Talk: Calls, and Chat: Messaging tickets.

Why is Zendesk making this change?

This update brings you closer to analyzing any data in your Zendesk account. With improved custom object reporting, you can tailor insights to match your unique business needs.

What do I need to do?

Once this feature is available in your account, you can incorporate the new custom objects data into your existing reports and dashboards or create new reports to uncover new insights.

What's coming?

In future releases, we plan to introduce custom object-focused datasets. Each dataset will focus on one specific custom object and its related objects. For example, if you have a custom object called “Product”, there will be a Custom objects: Products dataset automatically created for you. Here, you'll be able to create reports that return metrics such as the number of products, their cost, or any other values recorded as fields. You can then slice those metrics by fields from related custom and standard objects.
