Zendesk is excited to announce the release of new BambooHR and Workday external actions for use in action flows.

This announcement includes the following topics:

What is changing?

Zendesk is introducing the ability to securely connect your Workday and BambooHR accounts to the action builder in Zendesk. When connected, you can use the new external actions to integrate your HR platforms with Zendesk, to reduce manual lookups, eliminate dual-system context switching, and automate key employee-related processes. 

The BambooHR and Workday external actions make new HR automation scenarios possible, such as:

  • Validating employee status during onboarding and access requests.
  • Creating and updating HRIS records based on ticket submissions.
  • Routing internal tickets using HR attributes, such as department or manager.
  • Automating the time-off request process.

Now, the following HR capabilities that can be automated and orchestrated in your action flows.

BambooHR external actions:

  • Get employee details: Retrieve employee profile, contact, and HR attribute data from BambooHR.
  • Add employee: Create a new employee record in BambooHR.
  • Update employee: Update employee profile details.
  • Request time off: Submit time-off requests to BambooHR on an employee's behalf. 

Workday external actions:

  • Look up worker: Retrieve work profile data from Workday.
  • Request time off: Submit time-off requests to Workday on an employee's behalf.

Why is Zendesk making this change?

Employee service teams frequently engage with HR data, which was a very manual and slow process. These new external actions in action builder are a response to this known pain point and a continuation to align action builder as the primary workflow orchestration tool across Zendesk and external systems.

By delivering external actions for BambooHR and Workday, Zendesk is:

  • Reducing operational overhead for support and HR teams.
  • Eliminating repetitive manual steps and data entry.
  • Enabling structured, secure, and automated access to HR data.
  • Expending action builder's ability to automate cross-system business processes.
  • Supporting Enterprise customers seeking deeper HRIS integrations.
