Zendesk is pleased to announce enhancements that make approval requests easier to use.

What is changing?

Several enhancements have been made to approval requests that make it easier to provide complete information within the request and share links to approval requests when needed. Specifically:

  • 5x more context. We have significantly increased character limits on approval request fields and added support for better text formatting. The approval request subject can now contain up to 500 characters, and the description can contain up to 2,500 characters.
  • Easier to read. Approval request descriptions now support paragraph breaks. This allows you to present complex information more clearly and makes it easier for the approver to read and understand the request.
  • Direct linking. Agents can now generate direct links to approval requests, which they can use when referencing the request in other systems, such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, or in emails. Additionally, direct links to the approval request are now included in the notifications sent to agent and end user approvers.

Why is Zendesk making this change?

Zendesk understands that complex workflows, such as change management or HR onboarding, require detailed information. Approvers need rich context and a fast way to find their assigned tasks, such as approval requests. By increasing the character limits, approval requests can provide more information to approvers, and direct links make it easier and faster for approvers to respond to approval requests without getting lost in tickets.

What do I need to do?

No action is required. These changes are available to all accounts with approval requests. When you create a new approval request, you'll notice expanded character limits and the link icon within approval requests.
