In a Guide theme, there is one page template each for article, section, and category by default. Guide admins can create additional templates for article, sections, and categories. If your live theme has multiple templates for these template types, you can change the template for an article, section, or category at any time.
Agents can change the template on any article they have permission to edit. You must be a Guide admin to change the template for a section or category.

For Step 4 above: "The live article is updated with the new template. You cannot preview this change in the article editor." It's a bit wonky to explain to dozens of colleagues (especially those coming over from Confluence) who are writing articles that they need to (1) select the template, (2) save the article, (3) preview (4) edit to be able to view the template in action. Am I missing something, or is there anything in the roadmap to have a template populate while the article is being edited? Thanks in advance!
I am trying to add a new template. In Step 2 above, it says to choose a template category or section, I don't see anything other than Default as an option. How do I see other templates? Please clarify that I can have multiple templates for category, section and articles. Thanks.
Hi Rebecca!
The default article template is the only one that's available out of the box. In order to have additional templates appear in that drop down, you need to create them first. You can find out how to do that here. Just bear in mind that you need to be on Guide Enterprise in order to be able to use this functionality.
We are on Guide Professional and I would like the template for Sections to look like the template for Categories, but I don't see how to do that. Is that possible with Guide Professional? I can't even seem to see any templates in Guide Professional.....
Hey Linda,
This feature is only available on Guide Enterprise. To change the Template for an article/section/category you would need to upgrade your account. You can see our Guide Plan Comparision by clicking the link I've attached.
Cheers!
My client is using Guide Enterprise and I am able to create alternate theme templates. For instance, I just created an alternate Article template that I would like to use in specific cases.
The problem is that I am unable to actually assign this new template to any articles. When I load a specific article and then go to the Template drop-down that *should* give me the ability to make the alternate template assignment, the only choice in the list is 'Default'.
Does anyone know why I am not even seeing the new template in the drop-down list even though it is showing up as a new template in the navigation panel when I launch 'Edit Code' for the theme?
Thanks.
