    Hi Johnvpap,

If you select multiple chat or the checkbox in the table heading area, it will select all chats and you can bulk delete them from the History tab.

Just to be sure, following this procedure, are the history/attachment completely removed from Zendesk's server as well?

    Hi Xiaomeng,

Once deleted by following the instructions in this post, they are permanently removed from the servers.

    Hello Ramin,

We get around 500 chats every day, stretching back 4 years in time. Is there a way to bulk/mass delete all chats up until around a year ago? 730.000 chats are, ofc, too many for deleting 30 at a time manually.

    Hi Mikael,

There is currently no bulk delete API for this but you can create a script using the REST APIs to delete them over time.

REST APIs are limited to 200 calls per minute, so it could take three days for the script to complete if you have over 700k chats in your account.

You can learn more about the REST APIs here:

    https://developer.zendesk.com/rest_api/docs/chat/chats#search-chats

    https://developer.zendesk.com/rest_api/docs/chat/chats#delete-chat

Can you elaborate on why you want to delete all the history?

    Thanks,

    Ramin

    Hello Ramin,

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately it is too complicated for us to get something out of.

The background is that we do not have any intentions of saving data for longer than we have to, and since some customers are more prone to sharing sensitive information than we actually ask of them, we need a solution to delete it. Most of the time we delete sensitive data at the end of the day, but some is missed as most data is formatted in different ways. We believe than no data older than 1 year is worth saving.

    Best regards,

    Mikael

    Hi Mikael,

I understand and I apologise there is no better way right now to delete that much data. If and when we have something that can help you out, we will let you know.

    Thanks,

    Ramin
