Zendesk is excited to announce the ability to automatically delete older custom object records that you no longer need.
This announcement includes the following topics:
What is changing?
Deletion schedules allow you to specify conditions an object's records must meet to be deleted. Admins and agents with permission can now create and manage deletion schedules for your custom objects' records. This feature is designed to help you manage high volumes of temporary data without needing to build or maintain custom API-based deletion jobs.
Deletion schedules for custom object records unlock powerful new data management strategies, such as:
- Reducing data clutter. For example, admins can choose to delete the customer's product registration or service orders older than 3 years.
- Meeting compliance goals. For example, you could purge denied loan applications after 180 days to comply with data retention policies.
- Leveraging custom objects as temporary data stores for high volume data. For example, you could use a custom object to store the requester's order when a ticket is created, and then delete the order record 30 days later.
Why is Zendesk making this change?
Zendesk understands the importance of having full control over your data lifecycle when you integrate your unique business data into Zendesk through custom objects. Many organizations have strict data retention policies and compliance requirements, such as GDPR, that mandate the deletion of data after certain periods.
By supporting deletion schedules for custom object records, you can now automate your data management at scale, ensuring you can meet your compliance goals, reduce data clutter, and improve the relevance and accuracy of your existing data.
What do I need to do?
Custom object record deletion schedules are available on all plans that include custom objects. Get started by Creating deletion schedules for custom object records.
The Advanced Data Privacy and Protection add-on (ADPP) unlocks additional deletion schedule capabilities, including support for up to 10 deletion schedules per custom object, up to 100 AND/OR condition statements for complex logic, and the ability to clone deletion schedules.
