This topic describes how to search live chat and messaging conversations in the Zendesk Agent Workspace. You can use Zendesk Support search to find information in live chat and messaging transcripts.
Search works for:
- Live chat transcripts, regardless of Chat transcript visibility (Public or Private)
- All web and mobile messaging transcripts
To search
- Open the Zendesk Agent Workspace.
- Click the Search icon (
) in the top toolbar.
- Enter your query in the search box.
You can enter any part of a conversation that you want to search for.
For newly-created messages, it can take 10-12 minutes for the conversation to be fully indexed and available in search results.
- Press Enter.
A list of search results appears. You can hover your mouse pointer over a ticket to see the results in context.
For more information on search, see Searching Zendesk Support data.

Step one says to open the list of tickets I want to search from. Is that implying that the search will be limited to tickets in the currently selected ticket view?
That doesn't seem to be how Zendesk works. Unless my Zendesk environment is missing something to make it work this way.
To test this out I selected a view which only has 5 open tickets in it. I use the search field to search for a word I know to be in one of those tickets. The search results display a list of 9,000+ tickets.

Hi Chris Fassano
Thanks for the comment! I have updated the article so it doesn't imply that search results are limited to a specific view.
