In Explore, you can decide which day of the week should be considered the start of the week when it comes to the reports you build and the filters you use. The ability to set a custom start of week gives you more flexibility in weekly reporting.

Understanding the default start of week
By default, a user’s profile locale (set in the Language field in the user’s profile in Zendesk Support) determines which day is considered the start of the week. For example, if the user’s locale is English (United States), then the start of the week in reports and filters is Sunday. If the user’s locale is English (United Kingdom), then the start of the week is Monday.
The table below shows a full list of locales and their corresponding start of week days.

Setting a custom start of week
If this default behavior doesn’t suit your needs, Explore administrators can set an account-wide start of the week. It can be any day of the week, and it will be applied to all users on your account.
The screenshot below shows a report in an account where the start of the week has been set to Tuesday.
To change the start of the week
- In Explore, click the admin icon (
).
- In the menu at the top of the page, click the account information icon (
).
- Under Start of the week, select the day of the week that should be considered the first day of the week in queries and filters.
- Click Update account.
When this setting is updated, it is automatically applied to reports in your account, but not to dashboard filters. To apply the custom start of the week to dashboard filters, you’ll need to re-publish your dashboards.
Additionally, this setting has no effect on prebuilt dashboards. However, it does affect copies of the prebuilt dashboards that you've made.
Understanding how the start of week affects week numbers
Setting a custom start of week affects how Explore calculates the week numbers for the year. When you set a custom start of week, week 1 always includes the fourth day of the week. For example:
Start of week | Week 1 |
---|---|
Sunday | The week with the first Wednesday of the year |
Thursday | The week with the first Sunday of the year |
Saturday | The week with the first Tuesday of the year |
This affects Week of year attributes (for example, Tickets created - Week of year).

Glad you're feelin' good, David!
I don't think this article is applicable to those on the growth plan? I can't see the admin icon ⚙ in my explore. Can someone confirm this?
Hi Grace Stratton, you're right! The Explore admin settings aren't available on the Explore Lite, Suite Team, and Suite Growth plans, so the custom start of week isn't available on those plans. I've updated the banners at the top of this article to reflect the correct plans.
The default behavior of basing the start of the week on the user's language does work across all plans, though.
Thanks for pointing this out, and sorry for any confusion!
Hi All,
I just change the first day of the week from Sunday to Monday from Explore's admin menu. I also try to re-publish our dashboards that were impacted by the changes as written above. But it seems it doesn't work as the dashboard keeps showing Sunday as the first day. Am I missing something? Any advice on this?
Thank you.
I will open a ticket with you to investigate further.
Best regards,
Hi Erin O'Callaghan Alex Zheng - wonder if any of you folks could help with a similar query... My company is moving our fiscal year from Jan-Dec, to Feb-Jan - this creates a number of difficulties with explore reporting (e.g. "quarters" are based on the standard increments) Is there any way to adapt these in my reports/dashboards without having to edit every single query?
Hi Matt Farrington-Smith, it’s not currently possible to adapt reports and dashboards in bulk to adjust the fiscal year. Though you could request this functionality by submitting feedback in the Explore community forum, if you’d like!
The account-wide start of week in my Explore settings, as demonstrated above, is already set to Sunday.
However, all of the time filters in the standard pre-baked Explore dashboards start the week on Monday when I set the Date range to "Last week" on the simple tab and when I choose "From the beginning of This week" on the Advanced tab.
Should the date filters on dashboards be respecting my account-wide Sunday week start? Or is the intended behavior of the dashboard filters to set the start of the week to Monday regardless of my account-wide start of the week?
As it stands now, I'll need to change the date range every time I'm pulling weekly reports and that doesn't seem right. Is there some other setting I need to adjust? Please advise!
Hi Ronald, the custom start of week setting doesn't affect the prebuilt Explore dashboards. But if you want, you can create a copy of a prebuilt dashboard, which would be affected by the custom start of week setting.
Thanks Erin, I missed that in the article! It's working perfectly now with my custom dashboards. 🙌
Insightful. Thank you.
