Search Icon, reloads search widget

To date the steps of using the search are to click the magnifying glass, enter your text, and then click enter on keyboard. This is functioning as expected. 

However doing the same steps, but replacing the 'enter key' with 'clicking the search Icon' causes the search to reload, which removes your text. The Search Icon should not be interactive once it has opened the search text box.
