Can I ask if there is likely to be rules you can set up for badges?

For example, when the user makes there the first post, they get a badge automatically, or if they are the person with the highest activity.

It's great that you are adding badges and other aspects but wouldn't it make more sense not to give us more manual work to manage our Community when we still find it difficult to get activity reports out.

    Hi Kelly Barnes,

Thank you for the question. You can certainly expect us to further build out the applicability of badges, including automation. I see this release as a foundation for more and more engagement features in Gather. For now it is just manual badging and REST API which enables more advanced use-cases, as well as scripting and such. This helps a number of use-cases but other cases will be addressed later.

    Hey Kasper!

Are there any type of tool tips that can be activated for the badges?  For example, when I hover over the badge, can I get the title or description text to display?  Or is there another way for the community to understand what each of the badge icons represent?

We're so excited to start using badges in our community!

    Hi Carrie,

I would recommend using the badge "description" for such an explanation to the community. The description is also included in the email that is sent out to anyone who is awarded the badge. So it's a good place to give them some kudos :-)

As for tooltips - this is essentially up to the theme developers. The badge name, description, icon etc. is all available to be used in the theme. In the Copenhagen theme we just used the badge name as the icon image's "alt" property, which turns it into a type of tooltip. You could also add in something more fancy, for example with Bootstrap tooltips or JQuery tooltips. Such options might be better if you want to have a lot of content in the tooltip (multi-line, and maybe with a header or the icon or something in the tooltip).

Thanks Kasper Sørensen!  Does the API documentation have details about including the properties in the theme?

    And...we turned on badges today!

    Hi Carrie Doring,

Glad you turned the badges on!! :-) I'll be looking for them at your site soon. So our API documentation does not directly cover the tooltips part, because those tooltips are a third party website library that you can add on your own. But you can find the properties of badges described in the "Badge object" part of the templating API docs. I would also note that the "User" object has a badges property, so you can loop through badges when you have a user, e.g. a content author.
