Question
In Explore, I added a total to a report with a top/bottom filter. Why does the overall sum remain consistent, even when sorting by the top or bottom attribute?
Answer
A top/bottom filter allows you to focus on the highest or lowest results within your report based on a specific range that you define. A top/bottom filter hides the results that don’t match your criteria, but those hidden results are still included in the report’s data.
Therefore, when you add a total to a report that uses a top/bottom filter, the sum of the values remains constant even when filtering by the top or bottom attribute. The total sum calculation considers all results, whether they’re visible or hidden, to show the overall total.

This observation is incredibly helpful in understanding the consistency of the overall sum despite sorting by different attributes. It highlights the robustness of the data and the underlying mechanisms within the system. Knowing that the sum remains consistent provides valuable insight into the integrity of the data and ensures reliability in our analyses. Thank you for sharing this insight!
