In Explore, every filter, query, or other object you add to your dashboard is called a widget. Use this article to find out how to add and arrange widgets on your dashboard.
This article contains the following sections:
Adding widgets
There are two types of widgets you can add, static and interactive.
-
Static widgets will not affect query results or how users interact with your
dashboard. Static widgets include images, text, shapes, queries, and tabs. For information
about adding a query to a dashboard, see Adding queries to dashboards.
-
Interactive widgets enable users to set what query results to view and how to
view them. With interactive widgets, viewers can change a queries' metrics or attributes,
filter results, and use what-if variables.
For more information about adding and editing interactive widgets, see Adding dashboard interactions. For information about using interactive widgets, see Interacting with dashboards.
You can add both static and interactive widgets to the same dashboard, but interactive widgets might require additional configuration steps.
- In Dashboard Builder, click the Dashboard menu on the top toolbar.
- Click Add.
- Select the widget you want from the drop-down list.
The widget is added to your dashboard. You can drag-and-drop the widget anywhere you want in the dashboard, and drag the corners of the widget to change its size.
Arranging widgets
If you add several widgets to your dashboard, Explore can help you align your widgets.
Below are the available features:
-
Grid lines displays red lines to indicate where your widgets are located. These
grid lines only appear if you add more than one widget. The feature will activate whenever
you move a widget.
-
Automatically reorganize widgets rearranges your widgets to fill the entire tab. Automatically reorganize widgets will replace any custom sizes or positions you entered. To use this feature click Automatically reorganize widgets (
) in Tab options at the top of the Dashboard Builder.
Note: Before you use this option, set your tab dimension or select Tab options > Fit tab to screen ().
Copying widgets
In Dashboard Builder, you can copy and paste widgets to a different tab or dashboard.
- With the dashboard in edit mode, select the widget you want to copy.
- Click the down arrow in the widget's upper right corner, then select Copy. You
can also use your computer's keyboard shortcuts to copy the widget.
- In the new widget location, use your computer's keyboard shortcuts to paste the
widget.
- For Apple Mac: Command+v
- For Windows: CTRL+v
The widget is pasted in the new location.

How can we move widgets between tabs? I can't find how, so I've been adding a new query to the tab I want the widget on and deleting it from the other tab - but that seems like a long way round.
Thanks
Fiona
Hi Fiona, you can copy and paste widgets between tabs. For help, see Working with dashboard tabs .
Hope this helps!
Thanks, Rob! I searched the knowledge base but didn't find this article. Thanks for sharing - that makes it a lot easier!
Fiona
You're welcome, I've added a couple of new labels to the article to hopefully make it more 'findable' in the future :-)
The article Zendesk Explore resources can be quite useful as it lists all Explore articles on one page. I certainly use it a lot when I'm working on the docs!
Very useful! Thank you :D
Hi Nicholas Finch, that certainly does look a bit odd. I have a few suggestions (though I'm guessing you might have already tried these).
1. Does the original query (in Query builder) look OK, i.e. if you click the widget and then click Edit query?
2. Are you able to resize the query by dragging the corners (with the dashboard in edit mode)?
3. What happens if you delete the query from the dashboard and then try adding it again? That might reset any settings that were applied to it.
Thanks!
In the query builder, it also has whitespace under the charts, but I figured that those would go away on their own.
I can definitely resize it and put other widgets on top of it as a workaround, but that seems kind of hacky especially when I'm trying not to cause other widgets to get hidden under the larger one
I tried your third option deleting and readding it
It did this.
Can you resize the widget by dragging the corners? It looks like in your first version it was a bit stretched out. Now, it looks in proportion, just with a small window.
Still stuck with a lot of white space under the charts.
Sorry that's still not working. I'm unsure of why it's doing that. I've opened a ticket on your behalf so someone can get in touch and help you directly. I'm sure they'll get to the bottom of this.
Trying to consolidate widgets from multiple tabs in a dashboard onto a single tab for use in team reporting meetings. I copied widgets to a new tab, some are showing a different value in the new tab than they are in the original tab. Others show as "No Data Available"... They are all pulling from the same dataset, and the date filters are identical between old and new tabs. When I go into the Query editor of each widget on each tab, they are completely identical... ????
Hey Keith,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention! I'm going to create a ticket on your behalf so our Customer Care team can look into this and see if they can replicate. You'll receive an email shortly stating your ticket has been created.
Cheers!
