Improve PDFs Generated From Reports

Answered

Posted Jan 23, 2019

Currently, you cannot share dashboards outside your organization, despite listing this as an option in the documentation.  When you export, you currently get a VERY low resolution screenshot only of the dashboard, and you get a pdf page per tab of the dashboard.

This request is two fold. One, improve the quality of the images in the PDFs that are generated, and make the text both selectable, and links clickable. These are both things you can already do in Insights. It is useless for me to send a list of tickets with clickable links if the only way I can send that list is a fuzzy picture of the text.

Second, I would like to be able to get a single PDF with all the tabs in it as separate pages. I don't want to be sending out 8 pages of individual PDFs, and when I want to go back and reference a past report, I don't want to be trying to sort through these pages to remember which tab had the one report I want to look at. I can obviously tie these into a single document in post, but this would be much less of a hassle if Explore did this out of the box.

100% agree with Celia, this is very frustrating at the moment and needs to be resolved as a priority.

Agreed.

The PDFs look terrible. I would never send this to a client.

Images do not work either, you only see a white square.

There are a number of other bugs with Explore that make it unusable should you care about the presentation of the dashboard.

Hi Jordan, thanks for posting this. I've opened this as a ticket so that the team can drill in on these problems with you and hopefully find some resolutions. You should hear from someone soon.

Any update on this? I've created some dashboards to present to Exec team, when I export via PDF they look absolutely terrible. Im having to manually re-create the data in a more presentable format.

I guarantee there will be more success with this product if the ability to automate and distribute reports was improved.

I'm really disappointed that Zendesk is not improving the quality of pdf prints.

This request was made a year ago and we are still in the same situation (since 23 January 2019)

this is an important feature and we got fuzzy dashboard in pdf.

can you prioritize this point with developers?

Thank you

This is yet another compromise with this product, I've yet to do anything in Explore that works as expected.  I still don't have a clear understanding of why Zendesk would make an incomplete product (Explore) mandatory and remove a product (Insights) that actually meets the needs of its customers.

Agreed!  The PDF resolution quality is horrible!  I really want to see this improved ASAP.  Even taking a snip from the live dashboard turns out with low resolution.  It almost seems like the whole explore page (for reports and dashboards) is low resolution to begin with and this needs to be cleaned up!

Additionally, if I have a tab on an explore dashboard that is just a text box (which I use to outline action steps for other people/departments) the export just has a blank green page with NO text on it whatsoever!  This is a huge issue and needs to be corrected.

The quality of the PDF and PNG image files included in scheduled email reporting is atrocious. No matter the size of a pie chart I create in a dashboard, the image and data is truncated, compressed, and distorted to the point that it is unreadable.

I don't know if I'm missing an obvious set of formatting options, but if this is the default (and only option), then this is absolutely unacceptable.

I raised this issue 3 years ago and nothing has been done to improve it, come on Zendesk, it's not acceptable.  I have to export the data and create a new graph in Excel each and every time which is such a waste of time.

Hi everyone,

The quality of the PDF and PNG exports was improved in the beginning of 2022. Currently, you can generate exports in High, Medium and Low (original resolution) quality. For more info see: Exporting dashboard tabs and reports

If you want to generate a well formatted export with a good resolution choose one of these two options in the export modal:

  • Current (Medium quality)
  • Current (High quality)

There next updates for the exports functionality that are on our radar are:
  • Multi-tab dashboard exports - a feature that will be included into the New Dashboard builder. You can vote for this feature request here - Explore full dashboard export
  • Vector based PDF exports that will allow better pagination and the ability to copy text.

Guys, good morning!

You could enable the option of image quality or PDF to be selected in the schedule for sending the report via email, for example, I want to receive my scheduled emails, with low quality, thus taking up less space.
