Issue symptoms
I created a custom dashboard and set up a time filter but it doesn’t work correctly when I choose a time frame.
Resolution steps
When you add a time filter to a dashboard to filter report results based on the selected time filter date range, select the appropriate date attributes for the applicable datasets based on the reports embedded on your dashboard.
To apply the time filter to the appropriate report
- Open the dashboard and click Edit in the top tools bar.
- Click the Time filter you want to edit and then click the arrow pointing down.
- Select Edit filters and search for the attributes you want to filter. Select the datasets related to the report you want the filter to impact in this dashboard.
- Click Close.
When you select a time attribute, you are applying the time filter widget to that time attribute rather than filtering it. For example, when Support: Tickets 1 - tickets_created_at is selected, the time filter widget applies the specified date range to any reports that use the Support: Tickets 1 dataset as the ticket creation date. To prevent this, exclude the time filter from any unrelated reports.
To exclude a time filter from a report
- Open the dashboard and click Edit in the top tools bar.
- Click the report you want to exclude and then click the arrow pointing down.
- Click Exclude filters and then Time filters.
- Select the elements that you don't want to be applied to that report.
In this example, the tickets_solved_at time filter doesn't interfere with the tickets_created_at based report. - Click Apply.
Once you finished customizing the dashboard, publish the dashboard to save any changes made.

Hi @... and team, I have a different issue with the Time Filter. I'm editing a dashboard, I update the time filter from 30 days in the past to 4 weeks in the past, and publish. The dashboard always reverts to my previous 30 days setup. Any tips on how to address this? Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, I can't find another article that covers time filter not saving.

@... - check out bookmarks. You can't save a default filter on a dashboard directly. https://support.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/1260803013110

Hello,
Hope you can help me. Is there a way to change the default time filter from the "past 30 days" to "this month". I've been trying to set this up but it keeps on going back to the default date filter which is "past 30 days".
Hoping to hear from you soon!

@... - see my previous comment above. You cannot save a default for a dashboard. The default will be whatever is built in the query as saved. You can use bookmarks to quickly change filters.

I created a report, Average time to solve tickets in the dashboard. I am trying to see the average time for a year which range from 9/1/2021 to 8/31/2022. When I filtered by the time 9/1/2021 - 8/31/2022 in the time filter widget, it gave the correct result, e.g, 30 hours. But when I filtered by each month, 9/1/2021 to 9/30/2021, I got the number 14 hours, 10/1/2021 to 10/31/2021, I got the number 16 hours, and so on. These results are not right. Those numbers are less than the correct results.
If I edited the report and added Ticket Created by year and Ticket Created by Month, it shows the correct result. After saving and coming back to the dashboard, the wrong result for each month shows up.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hey there, Eric Gao Zendesk I'm experiencing a slight different issue when it comes to the time filter. I've set up a custom dashboard, defined which date fields per dataset it should relate to, however whenever I use it, it shows different values than those shown when you go directly in the report and run the same filters & timeframe setting
Can anyone help me understand what causes this? I also played around setting the timeframe using data filters, which fixed the missing data issue, however you're not given a calendar view when using data filters, so it becomes very challenging to select specific time periods easily
